The Pinto Horse - Used in many country and western movies

The Pinto Horse is a breed that has a long history and is known throughout the world - even to Animal Friends Equine Insurance customers! It is a versatile horse breed that can be used for all kinds of purposes. This breed is suitable for hunting and western events. The Pinto is docile and levelheaded and makes a good pleasure riding horse.

The Pinto horse can be seen in many western films and movies, especially ones with Native American Indians. The Indians preferred these horses because of their colouring, which gave the horse a natural camouflage. This breed is bred for its coloring and there are four types, which include the Saddle, Hunter, Stock and Pleasure. These types are classified by their sizes.

To maintain the specific types, breeders are encouraged to maintain the breeds. In competitions all types of Pintos are shown in their specific class. The colouring of a Pinto is usually described as a dark colour background with splashes of white. There are two recognised patterns which are the Overo and the Tobiano. The Overo is a white horse with colour patches and the Tobiano is white with large spots of colour.

The stock type of Pinto horse is also called the American Paint breed. The difference between the Paint and Pinto is in the breeding. A Pinto horse can be any breed, except draft horses. On the other hand, the Paint horse has to have registered bloodlines which include a thoroughbred, quarter horse or a Paint horse.

The first pictures of spotted horses can be found in Ancient Egyptian art. It is believed that the Conquistadors were the first ones to bring the Pinto horse to America. Many of the spotted horses were shipped over from Europe to the United States when the fad for spotted horses had faded there. The Native American Indians cherished these horses and were fond of their unique colouring.

The Pinto horse is beautiful to look at and is also a very versatile horse. They make great riding horses because of their friendly and docile temperament. For a quote click here and feel good >> Pinto Horse Insurance Quote
