The New Forest Pony - A great all rounder

The New Forest pony is most commonly found in the forests of Hampshire, and our horse insurance customers may be surprised to learn that it has been recorded to have been in this area since the year 1016!

At between twelve and fourteen hands, these ponies can be found in most colours and are one of the mountain and moorland breeds. In the New Forest, where they roam free, they are often thought to be wild, but these intelligent and friendly horses are actually owned privately.

New Forest ponies can be driven, but are more commonly ridden. Their kind nature and relatively small size means that they are superb for children to ride, but many adults take to these horses too. They also make amazing pets since they have such a wonderful relationship with man.

Recognised by their solid frame, sloped shoulders and muscular quarters, the New Forest pony is surprisingly fast.
