Donkey Sanctuary, Devon

We have provided money to purchase a fluid warming cabinet that is essential in the veterinary hospital for warming bags of intravenous fluids to body temperature. The cabinet provides a controlled method of warming fluids to a pre-set temperature and can be left switched on permanently so that the fluid can be warmed and maintained at the correct temperature and are available instantly for use. It is good practice to warm fluids prior to use as this can help to maintain patient core temperature, and this is especially important in critical care cases such as during surgery and for emergency hospital admissions.
Animal Friends Equine Insurance has also provided funds to purchase single use surgical drapes. Using single-use surgical drapes will help them to reduce the risk of surgical site infection. Draping of the surgical site provides a sterile surface and helps minimise the transfer of micro-organisms between non-sterile areas and the surgical wound.

The Mare and Foal Sanctuary
Animal Friends learned about the Sanctuary through a feature in the Mail about little Rebel, a four month old Dartmoor Pony saved from the annual sales in a terrible condition. As you will see, her front legs are deformed due to a bone growth defect. The Sanctuary found out that Rebel could be cured if she underwent a special operation at Bristol Veterinary Hospital but the operation would cost over £2000. Animal Friends immediately stepped in and offered the full cost needed for Rebel to have her operation. Rebel has now left the hospital and is doing well.

World Horse Welfare Charity
World Horse Welfare - formerly known as the International League for the Protection of Horses
Field officers of the World Horse Welfare respond to calls daily about horses in need. Unfortunately, there are many horses that are suffering due to neglect, cruelty or ignorance. The horse is taken to one of the four centres and will be given the treatment they need. The horse also goes through a complete rehabilitation programme.
This charity has four centres located in Somerset, Aberdeenshire, Lancashire and Norfolk. Animal Friends Equine was pleased to make a donation to this lovely charity in memory of, John Davies QC who passed away.
