Martin Clunes - New President for the British Horse Society

We are delighted to hear that Martin Clunes has been elected as the next president for the BHS, soon to be stepping into the gap being left by Desi Dillingham on the 1st of June this year. The BHS could not wish for a more prominent public figure that can use his current standing in the British community to further increase the knowledge amongst the public of the welfare aims of the BHS. Martin and his family are all accomplished riders and own twelve horses, so it’s clear to see that a better president would be hard to find.

Martin has recently stated; “Every time we learn of another horse which has suffered at man’s hands we realise how essential – and urgent – is the welfare work of the BHS. If, when I become President, I can help the Society alleviate the suffering of a single horse whose trust has been betrayed by humans, then I will have done some good. If tens of thousands of people join me, that good will be magnified.

“Above all, I hope I can help spread something of the joy which comes from associating with horses to those, especially the young, who otherwise would never make their acquaintance. We all delight in our horses and we all should spread a little of that delight to as many people as possible.”

It is clear to see that Martins’ love for horses can only strengthen the BHS, and going forward from June 1st we should expect great things in terms of horse welfare and awareness. As passionate horse lovers ourselves, Animal Friends is delighted to see someone with as much enthusiasm as us for Horse welfare in a position that can make so much difference to horses suffering around the UK.
