Teen injured in riding accident

A young rider has been injured in a fall from her horse in Staffordshire.

It appears the 13-year-old girl was hurt when she slipped off while attempting a jump on her mount during a ride in Mow Cop, the Stoke Sentinel reported.

Both a vehicular ambulance and an air service were called to the scene and the teen was taken to University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

However, her condition is not thought to be serious.

"She had a suspected dislocated shoulder, but was apparently up and about and walking," a spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Her fall follows that of a woman on Australia's Gold Coast who was thought to have damaged her spine in the accident.

Both could serve as a reminder to equine enthusiasts of the importance of horse insurance, as well as that of buying good quality riding gear like a hard hat and a body protector.
