Retirement 'led me to horse care'

Those approaching retirement age may be turning their thoughts towards how they can fill their time when they hang up their work boots - and it may be that horse care is the way to go.

A piece published in the Daily Express spoke to several retirees, one of whom - John Wood, aged 65 - has taken up equestrianism.

He did not get into the saddle until he was 63 but has found it to be "good fun and great exercise".

However, looking for a new challenge, Mr Wood researched the possibility of playing in a polo league.

Now, he regularly takes the reins, either for a gentle hack out or a thrilling game with other chums in riding hats.

He is in good company in the polocross stakes - Princes Charles, William and Harry are all known for their love of the sport, as well as Princess Anne's daughter Zara Phillips.
