Rider airlifted to hospital after beach accident

A rider has been airlifted to hospital following a riding accident on a beach in Portreath in Cornwall.

According to the Cornishman, the horseman fell from his steed when the mare bolted along the sands after she was spooked by an incoming wave.

She threw her passenger off and continued to gallop around in terror until another rider, who had been hacking out alongside the duo, managed to catch her.

The man was left lying in the surf and suffering "severe" pain in his lower body, so paramedic crews who turned up to the scene made the decision to take him to a medical facility as soon as possible, a Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust spokesman said.

Riders concerned about their own safety when hacking out in unfamiliar terrain may consider horse insurance a good option.

In addition, purchasing a top quality hard hat is thought to be a wise idea.
