Hello! My name is Emma, I am 22 and I have been riding from a very young age when my Mum bought me my first pony, Snowy, a grey Welsh section A whose favourite game was testing the security of my seat, burying me in to the ground on a daily basis. Despite her “complications”, I still insisted on riding her every day and eventually we started to have lots of fun off of the lead rein.

Any equine person will be eagerly awaiting the release of Steven Spielberg’s ‘War Horse’, but there is a little while to wait as the amazing film is not due to show in the cinemas until Christmas time.

With the current recession, it can be an appealing prospect to loan a horse rather than purchasing outright. I have had my horse on loan for the last 3 years and is a perfect arrangement for my situation; the cost of keeping horses has risen considerably in the last few years, considering the recent hike in the cost of hay, feed and shoeing costs to name but a few.

The results of the 2010 British Horse Survey are in. Undertaken by the World Horse Welfare, more than 14,000 people took part, with 75% of that number describing themselves as horse owners. The purpose of the survey was carried out to provide a picture on the current equine community in the UK, as well as the consensus on topics such as horse welfare in sports, equine disease and the costs of keeping a horse.
