All about horse insurance: Horse trailer cover
We have recently been talking about our insurance policies to help you understand what the additional benefits to horse insurance policies entail. We can all get confused when undertaking the task of taking out appropriate levels of cover for our equine friends, and we all want to make sure the cover is correct so that we can have peace of mind.
Many customers phone up to ask us about trailer cover on their horses’ policy. It is an additional benefit which is optional when you take out horse insurance with us.
As horse boxes are expensive, many horse owners like to own a trailer, which can be hooked onto their car and tow the horse to shows and clinics as and when they like, rather than paying out lots of money to hire a box for a day. They are much cheaper to run and purchase than a horse box which is why they are so popular with horse owners.
Having your trailer on your horses’ policy will enable you to have all this insurance in one place which is undoubtedly easier for you to keep track of costs and manage.
Trailer cover on your policy will provide you with protection should your trailer be lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed up to the value of £5,000. The policy will not include public liability for the trailer, so if you are towing it, this will be covered on your vehicle licence.
Remember, on all horse insurance policies that you can claim for the price paid for you trailer; the market value or the market value or the amount shown in the schedule of your policy. This is standard with all horse insurance.
It is important that you are aware that if your horse is injured during the time spent in the trailer that this will only be covered by the horses’ veterinary fees on your policy, so make sure that you have adequate cover for your horse on his insurance.
