Emma's Introduction

Hello! My name is Emma, I am 22 and I have been riding from a very young age when my Mum bought me my first pony, Snowy, a grey Welsh section A whose favourite game was testing the security of my seat, burying me in to the ground on a daily basis. Despite her “complications”, I still insisted on riding her every day and eventually we started to have lots of fun off of the lead rein.

Since then I have not looked back and had 4 ponies since Snowy, gradually increasing in size, competing in all manner of Pony Club competitions and activities, and regularly represented my branch in competitions including dressage and tetrathlon, and had many successes over the years, as well as many disasters, haven’t we all!

My current mount is a 16’2” Belgian Warmblood who is affectionately known as “Boobie” we have no idea why she was given this nickname but unfortunately it has stuck. She is very well known in my pony club branch and has gained quite a reputation in our branch she is fantastic for cross country bold and brave with an amazing jump.  Boobie turned 20 years old in May 2011 and she is going stronger than ever! We recently qualified in a competition to be shortlisted for the BHS National Cross Country Championships in September 2011 – Watch this space I will keep you updated of our training and exercise plans.

We also enjoy entering the occasional show jumping competition and she will endure dressage if it means she gets to jump afterwards! However the dressage discipline is often called “stressage” as this is the one area we least enjoy, but we try our best, and when competing at combined training or at one day events her consistent double clears mean that we often get placed regardless of the dressage score!

Boobie and I have been partners in crime for 7 years now and we have an absolute blast I thoroughly enjoy competing her especially around cross country where she really excels herself! Boobie is the love of my life and a one in a million horse and she could never be replaced!

As well as Boobie was also have a 5 year old thoroughbred called “Pavé” who we rescued from a racing yard she was destined for the French meat market however we gave her a good home instead. She has been with us since she was 2 years old and has really changed and improved.

Since being with us my Mum and I have begun retraining her in and she takes everything in her stride, and is currently learning to jump which is going to take a bit of time and schooling.  She is going to be a great prospect for the future!

My horses are my life and keep me very busy; I would love to hear from anyone who is currently retraining a racehorse or an owner who also has a “older” horse who is still showing everyone how it is done!  I will keep you posted with our progress and look forward to hearing from you.
