Horse Boarding

The latest extreme sport to sweep equestrian fans is a crazy cross between skateboarding and horse racing where racers riding a form of mountain board are pulled along behind a horse.  It was invented by a professional stuntman, Daniel Fowler-Prime, after him and his friends stood on a skateboard and strapped a rope to a horse to be pulled along.

Described as a cross between skateboarding and wakeboarding, participants find themselves trying to keep their balance and holding on as the horse is spurred into a gallop by the rider. The horses reach speeds of up to 56mph, and falling over has been likened to getting out of a car at 30mph.

Mr Fowler-Prime is a founder of the Extreme Horse Riding Association and opened the National Horse Boarding Training Centre at Seisdon, near Wolverhampton. He has organised the first championships, involving races on a 100m-course, later this year. Animal Friends is undivided in the office whether or not this crazy sport will take root in the equestrian world.
