The 2010 British Open Show Jumping Championships was an exciting indoor equestrian event that was held over four days earlier this month (April) at the LG Arena in Birmingham. Robert Whitaker was there to defend his 2009 title as British Open Show Jumping Champion.
The show jumping competition included the 30 top international riders who competed over four days. This is the richest single class in British indoor show jumping and as the competition goes on riders are eliminated until there are only twenty riders left to go through the British Open Final. This year the show came to a dramatic ending. Ellen Whitaker, the cousin of the reigning champion, Robert Whitaker, took away the title to become the 2010 British Open Show Jumping Champion.
The H Factor competition is an audience favourite where horses perform amazing feats and stunts. The winner of the competition is chosen by a panel of judges and the audience. The Knights of Middle England give quite a knight in shining armour presentation. The Rockin' Horse is a fast paced Rock'n'Roll stunt show that will keep you dancing in your seat. The Saffron Walden Quadrille Team performed dressage to music. The Equestrienne is an all girl stunt show of female Gladiators. The winner of the H Factor this year was the Knights of Middle England.
Something new for the 2010 show was the Ponies Super League. It was a competition between the Summer National Ridden Champions and the Northern and Southern Winter Ridden Champions. Each rider performed to freestyle music in front of a panel of judges.
