British Eventing
Eventing started in the UK in 1949 when the Badminton Horse Trials were held for the first time. Nowadays, Britain is one of the most successful nations in the history of this equestrian sport. It has over 260 medals in Olympic, European and World competitions.
You can find national three day events in over 22 countries all over the world. The most international three day events are staged in Britain each year. This includes the famous Badminton and Burghley events. The sport is governed by British Eventing in the UK. The season runs from March through October and attracts renowned riders from all over the world.
Eventing, which is also called Horse Trials, evolved originally from the training of cavalry horses. There are three disciplines and each one is designed to test the horse's and rider's abilities. Dressage shows how trainable the horse is, the cross country tests speed and stamina and the show jumping tests athleticism and control.
The sport is like a triathalon and combines different disciplines in one competition; the person with the least penalties is the winner. The first test is dressage and is held in an arena that is 20 metres wide and 40 metres long. The rider and horse do a set of compulsory movements that are set up in a specific sequence. They are judged on balance, rhythm and the harmony of the horse and rider.
The show jumping test is one round of jumping that has a time limit. The object is to jump all the fences within the allotted time. The cross country phase is a course with natural obstacles that also has to be jumped within a certain time-frame.
Eventing is a great sport for all ages and skill levels. It is a good way to get experience in handling and controlling your horse. The level of experience both you and your horse have could be an important factor when determining how much you should expect to pay for your equine insurance too. Eventing is also an excellent way for you and your horse to spend quality time together and develop a special bond.
