BHS Dressage Test
BHS Dressage Test is a form of training that teaches a horse how to carry his rider in a balanced way. The correct muscles in a horse are built up by dressage. Dressage horses that are well trained are responsive, active and will respond to the most subtle commands given by the rider. If a horse isn't trained properly they will not perform as well in a discipline. Dressage will teach a horse to carry more weight on his hindquarters so it will perform better when hacking, competing and jumping. Dressage is very important especially if you want to take up a discipline seriously.
You can get dressage lessons from a qualified BHS instructor. There are classes designed for novice or at higher levels depending on your experience and ability on a horse. When you are learning dressage you and your horse will perform a variety of exercises. These exercises teach the rider the proper use of aids or the instructions you give a horse. The exercises help the horse to become fit and to be accustomed to your ways and instructions.
To start with, you will be doing basic exercises such as simple circles and walking down the centre or three quarter line. As you progress the moves and exercises with become more complicated and intricate. Dressage competitions include taking part in a series of different dressage tests. The horse is awarded points which are based on the score they received from the test. Every time your horse gains points they are allowed to move on to the next level of the test. Of course, as they move on, the test and moves become more difficult.
Dressage is an important part of learning how to control and become comfortable with your horse. It is essential if you would like to become serious about a specific discipline. Dressage is also good for a horse; it builds strong muscles and gives them a better sense of balance.
