You Don’t Have To Be a Professional Horse Trainer In Order To Train Your Horse How To Jump
“Learn how to train your horse how to jump in 10 simple steps”
(Part 1)
Did You Know…?
All horses are born natural jumpers. Horses are born with the ability to jump in the wild, reason being they may well need to escape from danger. It is very easy to teach a horse how to jump. You can teach a novice horse to jump in just 10 simple steps.
Step One: You need to make sure your horse can walk, trot and canter in a controlled manner. This training exercise is called pacing. If your horse can pace than the horse will be able to jump. Keep practicing until your horse is able to canter a circle and keep the impulsion going. Once you see they have accomplished this activity than you can begin to teach your horse how to jump.
Step Two: This exercise requires two people, so it would be a good idea to have a friend, worker of assistant trainer to help you perform this exercise. Introduce poles to your horse. Start with one pole and let the horse walk over it using a long leash and harness. Try not avoiding looking at the pole; keep your eyes looking up. Focus on looking ahead of what is in front of you. Repeat this exercise a couple of times.
Step Three: Once you have repeated the exercise above several times then have your helper or assistant to include more poles around the school. Next trot over the same poles with your horse until the horse becomes comfortable and relaxed. You will have to repeat this part of exercise until the horse is performing this exercise successfully without looking at the poles.
Step Four: Spread out five trotting poles approx 3'6" - 4' apart. Begin by walking them around the area; make sure you approach the poles from both directions, then progress to trot. Try not to keep your training sessions long. The training sessions turn out more successful if the training sessions are short. A training session should be fifteen minutes long. Fifteen-minute secession is plenty of time for a young horse. The horse will learn plenty from these secessions. Begin the secession the following day.
