Underestimating the Strength of a Donkey
Donkeys, like horses, have their own unique traits and personalities. Donkeys are always learning and every time you interact with them they will learn something new. Your donkey's behaviour is influenced by the ability, confidence and experience of its handler. Donkeys are large strong animals and they are very perceptive.
A donkey is a very intelligent animal along with being very stubborn. Sometimes they have to be persuaded to see things your way. If they are frightened or angry they can lash out at whoever is closest to them. They are very strong animals and you need to use caution around them. For example, recently a Mexican donkey ended up in jail after kicking and biting two men. The donkey was locked up in a holding pen that was usually used for putting drunks in. It lashed out at a pair of ranch hands.
The owner wasn't allowed to take his donkey home until he paid for the injured men's medical bills. The men said that the donkey just suddenly attacked them. He bit one on the chest and kicked the other man and fractured his ankle. It took six men to restrain the angry donkey. The owner was allowed to take the donkey home after paying the men's medical bills which came to 215. Had the man had equine insurance with third party liability included he might have saved himself some expense.
The jailer said this wasn't the first time they had to lock up a non-human. They once locked up a bull that devoured corn crops and demolished two wooden vending stands. They also locked up a dog for over 12 days for biting someone and the owner had to pay a fine to get them released. This is just an example to show you that even though donkeys and other animals can be domesticated they still can be dangerous. Just remember to always handle your animals with kindness and to always be aware of your animal's moods and body language.
