A driver in Florida was arrested on Sunday after a hit and run collision with a horse and rider, leaving both wounded. The horse later had to be euthanized due to its injuries.

Police caught Mr Alvarado as he returned to the scene of the crime, his car showing damage relevant to the accident. Police suspected his involvement and stopped him, whereby they smelt alcohol on his breath. He attempted to deny his involvement in the accident, stating that a friend had been driving his car instead.

He later changed his story, saying that he had slipped while changing gears and hit the horse. He stated that the rider got up and back onto the horse after the accident, but another rider that accompanied the first (that was hit by the car) stated that the car knocked the horse to the ground, and the first rider rolled from the bonnet.

Police found that Mr Alvarado was three times over the drink drive speed limit three and a half hours after the incident, so it is understood that he would have been even more inebriated at the time of the accident. He is being held under 7 charges is will be going to court for a number of driving offences.
