Foxton racecourse suffers double arson attack

Foxton Racecourse suffered a double blow after two arson attacks within 24 hours of each other occurred over the weekend. The first happened on Friday night, targeting the grandstand which damaged the Stewards area, President lounge and office.
The second attack which occurred late on Saturday night targeted one of the stable blocks. No horses were kept inside at the time, however thousands of pounds worth of equipment was destroyed in the resulting fires. Horses that were kept in stables nearby were released by trainers when the blaze first broke out, agitated but no worse for wear.
It is fortunate that the horses were kept in their outdoor shelters that night, as it appears that the attackers have no concerns for the destruction that they have caused. A large amount of history has been lost in the burning of the grandstand, and will cost a substantial amount to repair. We only hope that the attackers can be caught before another attack causes more horses to be in danger.
