Greater Manchester Police Horse Retires

Monday, 28 February 2011 13:23

After 15 long years of service, Dickens, a 16-hand gelding, is retiring from duty to pastures new.  He will take with him the accolade of being the longest-serving horse with the Greater Manchester Police.

The 21-year-old will retire to Buckinghamshire with his stable mate, Warwick, who has to retire due to problems with his joints.  They will both live at the Horse Trust's Home of Rest for Horses.

Dickens has been described as friendly and affectionate and has worked at football matches, public demonstrations and concerts since 1996, often leading the other horses if there is any disorder as he is so tough and brave.

Here at Animal Friends Equine Insurance, we operate an Employee of the Month Scheme, where the winner can donate £1,000 to the animal charity of their choice.  In January 2011, Angela from our Sales Team donated her £1,000 to the Home of Rest for Horses, so we are delighted to be associated with such a hero and wish him a long and happy retirement.
