Horse Jumps Fence and Goes for a Swim

Firemen have had to rescue a horse in Hanbury after he decided to jump a fence, ending up in a disused swimming pool.

Caroline Webley was forced to phone the fire brigade after finding her horse trapped in the steep sided pool. It appears that Louis, the three year old show-jumper, had leapt over the fence from his pasture in search of titbits, after the man who owned the neighbouring field where the pool was located passed by – clearly Louis was a little miffed that there wasn’t an apple or carrot on offer as usual.

Fortunately Caroline only lives 1 mile away and was able to phone the brigade as soon as she learned of Louis’ plight. He was standing in chest high, algae-filled water, so the brigade pumped the water from the pool before using hay bales as an impromptu staircase before leading Louis out.

Fortunately there was a vet already visiting another horse, who gave Louis a check once he was free; fortunately he was found completely healthy, and has been getting on well now that he is back in his field – but he probably won’t be jumping the fence again anytime soon.
