Houston Horses Rescued

A woman has been charged with cruelty to animals after an investigation found a large number of animals including horses that were kept on her property were severely malnourished.

Information had been given to the authorities highlighting a dead horse that had been found on the woman’s property that prompted the investigation. Whilst searching the 7 acre property in Houston, Sheriffs found a total of four horses’ carcasses and a severe lack of feed, along with 12 horses, 7 ducks, 4 dogs and 6 cats that were all malnourished.

Barbed wire was found around the property on the ground that may also have harmed the horses. The Department of Children’s Services were also called when it became apparent that two children on the property were living in ‘unsatisfactory conditions’. It is not believed that the woman meant to cause any harm but did not have the understanding, experience or money to care for the animals and children under her care.

Volunteers from Volunteers Equine Advocates Horse Rescue travelled from Gallatin, Tennessee to collect the animals making sure to test the animals and give them any necessary shots before loading them up for transit. Animal Friends is glad that these horses could be helped, and that the animals are no longer in danger during the winter months.
