Wiltshire Fire-fighters work with BHS

Wiltshire fire-fighters have been praised for their work in helping our equine friends by the British Horse Society.

Martin Clunes has praised the fire-fighters for their efforts in teaching their members how to properly care for a horse under rescue conditions, and how to handle horses in stressful situations. The BHS and Wiltshire fire service worked together across a number of courses in order to ensure that the specialist animal rescue team had the correct experience.

The figures show how important this kind of training is; they rescued 38 horses last year, and had rescued 15 horses within the first 4 months of 2011. These joint schemes ensure not only that the charity is secure in the knowledge that the fire-fighters are doing all they can to help the horses they are called out to rescue, but also that the fire service knows that they are fully prepared to tackle any problem they might face when handling a case involving horses.

Animal Friends is glad that the Wiltshire fire service has taken horse welfare seriously when considering training for their members, and extend our gratitude to them for all the hard work they do.
