Helmets may be invaluable horse event accessories

Whether you're competing at horse events or just heading out on a gentle hack, there's one accessory you should always take - a riding helmet.

This is the advice from Emilie LeBeau, writing for the McClatchy Newspaper service.
The reporter explained that this headwear can do wonders when it comes to protecting equestrians from nasty bumps and bruises.

However, it is vital to ensure that the item fits correctly, as hats that are too big or small may fail to offer the same sort of coverage in the event of an accident, which can shake chapeaus loose.

"Helmets should rest down on the head comfortably ... helmets that are too small may cause a rider discomfort," Ms LeBeau pointed out.

Other useful accessories while behind the saddle might include a body protector, which is thought to go some ways to preventing internal trauma, while proper riding boots are also a must.
