Late autumn 'ideal for hacking out'

Now that the season for horse events is winding down, equines will need something new to keep them occupied.
According to horse care expert Betsy Carter, writing for Fredericksburg.com, fatigued and stressed animals require relaxing rides and plenty of attention.
To this end, now may be the ideal time to start taking mounts out on hacks, before the temperature drops too sharply and ground becomes unstable and treacherous, as the UK is apparently in for a harsh winter.
Such rides are "considered a needed mental and physical break, as well as a more relaxed way of training on some of the same techniques employed in the ring", Ms Carter explained.
She added that for additional safety, it is wise that equine enthusiasts travelling through an area in which hunting is known to take place wear fluorescent vests and garments to ensure the hunters know what is passing them.
Ms Carter also advised readers to take their mobile phones with them.
