For almost twenty five years, The Horse Trust Charity has been working their utmost in order to ensure the welfare of horses, as well as to educate people on this topic. The oldest horse charity in the world, it has a lot of experience and has come very far in its quest to keep horses safe and well-treated.
The charity has an animal sanctuary which allows horses, ponies and donkeys to go into retirement - around one hundred of them. This gives these animals a wonderful place to live out the rest of their days in peace, away from the neglect or abuse that they may have suffered in their lives.

Sometimes certain horse breeds are in danger of disappearing due to a rapid decline in the number of horses of that breed. This can happen for a variety of reasons and when it does, groups of horse lovers, breeders and equestrian organisations do what they can to ensure that the numbers increase again.
There is no insurance you can take out against a decline in horse breed numbers - the only hope is the tireless efforts of people involved in programs such as the one below...

Horses are magnificent animals and can also be strong willed and stubborn, as any horse lover will testify to!
Owning a horse is a huge responsibility; it's not as simple as taking out a good insurance policy - you have to take a lot of time and patience to train a horse properly. Horses have to be controlled; however, training should be gentle and firm but nothing that would break a horse's spirit.

As an ethical insurance company, the welfare of horses is a major concern to us and has been highlighted by the media lately with the high-profile Amersham horse cruelty case.
Thankfully, there are many organisations that are doing their part to make sure horses are not mistreated.
The Blue Cross, for example, has applauded new code of practice guidelines to ensure that horse owners take their responsibility seriously.
These basic guidelines have information as to what a person has to provide for their horse. Some of the codes of practice include such common sense needs like making sure they have plenty of water and food. A horse also needs adequate shelter and plenty of space to roam and graze.

At Animal Friends we know all too well how important it is to learn how to keep your horse healthy; everything possible should be done to make sure all their needs are taken care of. Besides providing a proper diet and taking care of their coat and feet a horse also needs regular eye care. Sometimes a horse's eyes are overlooked when it comes to equine health. A horse's eyes are vital to keeping them healthy, active and safe.

Located at Windsor Castle, the Royal Windsor Horse Show has much to offer to its guests. With a wide variety of competitions, everybody that attended this show during 2010 had something to entertain them.
Driving, showing and show jumping were amongst the categories for performance which left the audience enthralled. With some stunning weather during the five day show, spirits were high as onlookers were kept on the edge of their seats with each event which contributed to the enthusiastic cheering that could be heard from the grandstand. Outside of the competitions, there were other amazing things to witness, including The Musical Drive of The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery which showcased horses being driven to music.

When it comes to those involved in equestrianism, it tends to be all or nothing and somewhat of an addiction to the beautiful animals. Because of this, horse lovers often jump at the chance to give to charities relating to them, in order to ensure that they all have the quality of life that they deserve.

Ethical Horse Insurance company sponsors local equestrian event...
Animal Friends Equine teamed up with Warminster Saddle Club this year by sponsoring jumps and classes at their annual Summer Show which took place on Sunday 20th June.
The Warminster Saddle Club is a BHS Approved Riding Centre and is one of the leading riding stables in the West Wiltshire area. In addition to riding lessons, events are run at the Saddle Club throughout the year. These include show jumping, hunter trials, dressage, the annual summer show and horse trials. The Club is ideal for all standards from complete beginners to more experienced riders wanting to improve in specific areas.

The Royal Festival of the Horse is a three day event that is held in Stoneleigh Park in Kenilworth on July 9th - 11th. This is definitely the place for the entire family to see and enjoy all things equestrian.
Each day is dedicated to one of the Olympic equestrian disciplines. You can visit on a particular day or go see all of the exciting events throughout the weekend.
